Monday, 3 March 2014 – Tangier, Morocco

Tangier is a port city in a strategically important location at the entrance to the Mediterranean with only the Strait of Gibraltar separating it from Spain.

Tangier is divided into the walled medina, and a new, modern city, the Ville Nouvelle by the Grand Socco, a busy square with a large fountain.

Morocco was the first country in the world to recognise the USA after it gained independence from the British.  The Tangier American Legation Museum was in a beautiful building which once housed the United States Legation and Consulate.
