To break the journey from Merzouga to Fez, we stopped at Midelt.
Midelt, at the base of the north eastern end of the High Atlas mountains was considerably colder than anywhere we had been in Morocco

We took a day trip into the foothills as the mountain roads were blocked by snow
We needed a 4WD as the “roads” were rough

Eventually the road disappeared altogether so we set off on foot
