Skoura is a fertile oasis town set just south of the High Atlas Mountains in the Dades Valley or “Valley of 1,000 Kasbahs”.
The most impressive kasbah of Skoura is the 17th century Kasbah Amerhidil, a large fortified tribal chieftain’s home built from mud, straw and stones. It even features on the Moroccan 50 Dirham note.
The palm groves of Skoura cover an area of 25 square kilometres.
We spent half a day exploring the palm grove paths and the kasbahs in the area.
When the rains don’t come there is still some water from the melting snow on the mountains
