The historical centre of Nimes was full of interesting buildings, fountains and Roman ruins.
We spent an afternoon clambering around the Arenes – a 2,000 year old Roman amphitheatre in the middle of town.
The Maison Carree - a beautifully restored limestone Roman temple built to honour the two sons of Emperor Augustus almost 2,000 years ago
The Jardins de la Fontaine
The Roman Source de La Fontaine - the site of the sacred spring and pagan temple of Nimes
The crumbling Torre Magne - once the largest tower along the Nimes city walls
