Chefchaouen is a small city in northern Morocco on the slopes of the Rif mountains.
It has one of the prettiest Medinas in Morocco - the narrow cobbled streets were filled with houses and buildings originally painted in various shades of blue by the Jewish refugees who lived there during the 1930s
The town square
It rained for most of the time that we were there, but we did manage to walk up the hill behind the village to the whitewashed Spanish Mosque
From there we had great views of the surrounding cloud capped mountains
We walked past a small spring coming out of the mountains
Next to the river were some concrete troughs with corrugated washboards where despite the rain some local women were doing their laundry
In Morocco, the women (and the donkeys) seem to do a lot of heavy work
Stopping for a rest on the bridge
