Early on Friday morning we caught a ferry from Piraeus Port in Athens to Santorini. The best way to travel to Santorini is by ferry – it’s an eight hour journey but the views are worth it.
We stood on the deck as we sailed out of Piraeus and watched the sun rise.

Deck or economy seats are the cheapest way to travel by ferry – and the best!
Our first stop was Paros
Followed by Naxos
Then Ios
Until finally, we got our first sight of the caldera (volcano rim) of Santorini
Our beautiful apartment at Imerovigli
Our first sunset at Imerovigli
Four-legged transport in Fira
We walked along the path next to the volcano rim from Fira to Oia to take in the spectacular views
We reached Oia in time to watch the sunset
Akrotiri, the remains of a Bronze Age settlement on the southern tip of the island
From Akrotiri, we walked to the Red Beach for a swim
Ammoudi, below the cliffs of Oia
