We spent a few days in a homestay at Thottada Beach, Kannur.

There was quite a lot of wildlife around the backwaters.
Our homestay was a little isolated and out of town so all our meals were provided by the homestay. The food is family style home cooking rather than tourist restaurant cooking and is probably some of the best food we've eaten in India. Keralan cuisine is largely based on seafood (fish, prawns, mussels and crabs), fresh vegetables and fresh grated coconut (which appears in curries, stir fries with vegies, and with chillies in sambals).
